Ok, so we all know Queen Adele is THAT DEAL, it’s a no brainer. But any doubt I may have had been erased when I copped her latest album’25’ this weekend. Miss Adele did not disappoint this album was everything I dreamed it would be and so much more! This woman is a true artist. We’ve all heard the track ‘Hello’ which had us all crying and wondering what happened to our crush from 6th grade but the album isn’t quite melancholy like I thought it would be. At least, not in the way her previous records are. ‘25’ is more of a reflective album than anything else; Adele herself describes it more of a “makeup album”. I got a very nostalgic feeling from the songs and a sense of maturity that comes with age and time. When you’re 25 you don’t see things the same as you do when you’re 19 or 21 and that comes through very clearly in the album. One song titled ‘Send my Love (to Your New Lover)’ is more upbeat than the other songs and it’s basically just her telling an ex “hey you weren’t a good fit for me but treat this next one better”. At one point in the song she says “We both know we’re not kids no more”, as in let’s be adults about this and not be petty. In contrast the track ‘All I Ask’ deals with the fear and the feeling of your world crumbling around you when you begin to accept you’re losing someone and in the chorus she asks “what if I never fall in love again?’ Ouch. That song is one of my favs, it punched me right in the gut.
I’m sure many of us have felt that way and honestly, besides her amazing voice, I think that’s what makes us love Adele so much. She’s relatable and raw in a way not many musical artists are anymore. Her honest and introspective lyrics draw us in and really make us examine our own feelings. The best thing about this album is it isn’t just focusing on her heartbreak but her breaking someone else’s and the mistakes she herself made along the way. This album reminded me we all have our hands dirty in that respect. I love, love, love this record and I highly recommend ya’ll go to the nearest Target, Meijer, or wherever you buy your cd’s (or vinyl) and GET THIS ALBUM!! Like yesterday. You should also know that she is not releasing it on iTunes or Spotify so spend some money and support and artist. Now, if only Frank Ocean would follow suit and release his next masterpiece.
Let’s dig into Nick Varcity’s EP Louis The Thirteenth. I’ve been strugglingto group words together and the infamous writer’s block has been stuck in place until now. Music, especially this year, has matured for the better. More rappers are getting in tuned with their soulful side and is incorporating that into their music. For my picky ears it’s rather refreshing.
Nick Varcity has picked up where he has left off at from his prior EP Cashmere Thoughts. A smooth sound, undoubted confidence and motivation runs rampant through Louis The Thirteenth and I love it!. With a mix of tracks produced by Detroit’s Lord Scum, Flyboi J and a few more Nick has put together something sophisticated that my iTunes has been yearning for. There’s a few songs, like High Mileage for example, where he sneaks in a line or two of something familiar and throws his own style on it. Over all if you want something mature (“mature” as in something that I can whole heartedly relate to) then this is an ideal EP to download.
In many fantasy and sci-fi series we often see the crossing over of two worlds or the brave step into other dimensions or even the revealing of a secret culture, this is often done by a select few (such as in Stargate,Doctor Who and Tron) or much of the world is effected at the emergence of another culture (such as in Avatar The Legend of Korra,The Akira manga series or X-men) These unions of vastly different species, caste, mutants and what have you, often create a civil war rigmarole adventure for us to sit back and enjoy. Gate takes the premise of our world being invaded by horse and dragon riding armored solders, Orc and even Pig-men and turns it on it’s head.
A massive greco-roman style gate has appeared in the midldle of Japan (I KNOW RIGHT!) and out comes the above mentioned battalion. They came bearing gifts of malice and destruction. Slaughtering civilians overturning cars and terrorizing the immediate area of Japan meanwhile our protagonist Itami as an Otaku who is creepily obsessed with the art form of Doujin (self published short stories and manga), he also happens to be a member of the JSDF but only because he loves and has to support his hobby. When shit hits the proverbal fan Itami (pictured above) goes to work disarming the viewer and removing his sluggish by disarming an armored solider and stabbing him in the neck, he then goes on to save many lives and is dubbed “The Hero of (GINAHASHF)” while also being promoted. None of this interest him as all this real life action made him miss the super doujin sale. A very peculiar protagonist but the gag wears thin early on. Many months later Japan decides to sends it’s army through the gate and that is where are story truly steps away from other series.
The beta for the Black Ops 3 multiplayer has been extended another day and its safe to say that the direction the series is moving in is a refreshing one with great potential. Developed by Treyarch, the series is another future shootem up first person decorated with the bells and whistles that future tech provides. Jet pack boosters, nanotech suits, and lightning guns are just a few tools of future debauchery at your disposal. The game at its core is COD through and through, but what this game does is build off of the formula Advanced Warfare laid. Thats right, this game successfully took more elements from Titanfall, added some COD and semi-unique ideas, and pumped out a decent game as far as the multiplayer is concerned.
At the start of the game you’re prompted to chose a character that have skills that range from pulling out an explosive super bow, equipping instant super armor, super speed and a host of other things that add another dimension to the same ol game the COD series had been pumping out recently. While Advanced Warfare, the previous COD title, wasn’t trash, it wasn’t the big enough push the series needed in gameplay to rejuvenate the fans, despite it having solid numbers selling. BO3, while of course still in Beta form, seems to be willing to take risks and adapt with what makes some of the best available shooters great. Continue Reading
I wanted to give this album a thorough listen before writing a review for it. Just a week ago (no pun…seriously, no pun) JOEY BADA$$ out of Brooklyn, NY turned 20 AND dropped his first debut album as an independent artist. I’ve already been a fan of his music before, B4DA$$ so the anticipation was real. Also, being able to sort of see it all come together was also a joy so this ties into the excitement. Late? Yes. But as my blogging cohorts can attest, this previous year has been haze and pre-revolution. This is my brief 2014 recap…….enjoy?
This last year was a fairly good one for anime with new series hitting the scene and beloved ones ending. It also seen the return of the highly popular series Hunter X Hunter in manga form and the anime wrapping up and ending the series in that format. With it being added in bulk on popular streaming sites like crunchy roll and Netflix, it has been thrust into the limelight at the perfect time. Shit real when you tackling 10-15 episodes a day. And the shit real.
From the mind of the great Yoshihiro Togashi (Yu-Yu Hakusho), the series was redone in 2011 and completed in the later half of the year. A Weekly Shōnen Jump Original, this series uses its character ambiguity to deliver story arc after arc of greatness wrapped in creative fighting straight out the spirit world. Continue Reading
Guess who’s week late with a recap, this girl, welp…
There’s a few memorable moments that I would like to share with you all. So you can consider this a mini wrap up of last year. I’m pretty sure we can all vouch for these memories and then some so here goes nothing…
1.Protesting against police brutality and other forms of unjustly predicaments.
First off, peace and blessings to those that have fallen victim to police KILLINGS. I guess as a young adult I can see for myself and understand what my parents have been warning me about when I was younger. It has been going on for decades and it’s becoming far too frequent. On the plus side, now n’ days it’s easier to spread awareness and to get the word out. I’m proud for everyone that have said their peace and joined together as a unit to fight for what’s right because if we don’t speak up, who will?
2. Excessive Contouring
Don’t get me wrong, make-up is cool in many ways. There’s a fantasy factor that goes on where you go from looking like everyday fab to some magical shit because of eyeshadow, lipsticks and all that good stuff. Last year I’ve seen a lot of unnecessary contouring. Contouring that I would only see drag queens do because well, they’re men dressing and performing as women. It became extreme to me when I seen women contour their tata’s and collarbone. Like, why do we fish for perfection? Ehh, to each its own. Continue Reading
