Music and inspiration are two things that are always in arm’s reach. You may have to extend your upper body a little bit to grab it, but nonetheless, it’s always nearby and ready to be utilized.
As always, I’m browsing on Soundcloud and I come across a record label called, TreeHouse Vibes, that’s straight out of London, UK. Anybody that’s familiar with their music scene knows that they’re not only students of their own musical, but they know our music even better than we do sometimes. Nonetheless, I knew I was in for some head-nodding, and high pitch ooh’s and ahh’s once I pressed play. I was right.
On “Velocity,” I wasn’t prepared for the musical smorgasbord that echoed out of my speakers. I had so many nouns, verbs, and adjectives flowing through my head, that it was hard to comprehend. Vibes, (ala the title of their record label) is all I could come up with. To be honest, it sounds like an early Ameriie track flipped around and made into something that again, even I can’t wholeheartedly describe. So instead of talking any further, I’ll let you decide. And if you have time, browse the entirety of their Soundcloud page.
P.S. See if you can name the sample that’s being used in the record.
As you can see the members of Detroit’s Clear Soul Forces are working on building themselves a name opposed to only being recognized as a group. Which is a beautiful thing!! I mean, why not highlight your greatest asset as an individual? As a music lover I want to see what it is that everyone contributes. Pfft, y’all better WORK!
21 tracks of instrumentals all bundled up into LATEX, created by Ilajide himself. His explanation for the name is pretty straight forward. Sex is great, the music is raw but nonetheless wrap it up. I’m not surprised with the album, I’m more so impressed. If you haven’t heard any of his previous work, clearly this is his niche. Also, you can hear the Juggernaut tied into the beat project as well along with bits a pieces of Busta Rhyme and Redman ad-libs. Latex is the calm before the storm. While Ilajide is gradually building a platform for himself be prepared for some funk in the near future. Can’t spare the details but yet that’s another reason for you to get familiar with him!
I went from listening to some old jazz to being distracted by a brightly colored picture with the word “DOODLE” on it. Once I seen who was behind it I immediately paused what I was listening to and pressed play. ILLingsworth is a Detroit native who’s also like…a beat magician. DOODLES is a mere glimpse for what he has in store for us later on. Kind of jazzy, kind of soulful; “Big things come in small packages”, basically. Not only will he be having a beat set at Metrotimes Blowout May 1st buuuuuuuut he also have a project, which will be on vinyl, coming out this summer on DJ House Shoes’ label Street Corner Music. Which, might I add, is an awesome opportunity! You go ILLingsworth!!
Question, for those who has an ear for samples and other sounds. Did I hear a pill being tossed from Dr. Mario on Channel Eng? Let me know!
